If you’re a longtime Coinbase user, you may remember a time when the major U.S.-based exchange offered something called a “Coinbase Bundle”. Essentially, this was a package of popular cryptocurrencies that you could purchase all in one go. But what happened to Coinbase Bundles?
Here’s the official word from Coinbase:
Coinbase Bundle purchases have been deprecated, as such all assets purchased in the Coinbase Bundle have been redistributed to their respective individual asset wallets.
So yes, Coinbase Bundle has been killed off. No longer can you buy a package of cryptocurrency that’s 75% Bitcoin, 10% Ethereum, and the other 15% split between Litecoin, Ethereum Classic, and Bitcoin Cash.
What happened to cryptocurrency I bought as part of a Coinbase Bundle?
It’s simple, really. Any cryptocurrency that you bought as part of a Coinbase Bundle now sits in its own individual wallet under “Accounts” on Coinbase. So if you bought a Coinbase Bundle worth $165 that was roughly $135 in Bitcoin, you should see the equivalent amount of Bitcoin in your Coinbase Bitcoin wallet.
Don’t worry — any cryptocurrency you bought as part of the bundle will still be in your account.
Why did they kill the Bundle?
Honestly, we don’t know the answer to this. When the company introduced them, they were pitched as an easy way to dip your toe in buying and selling a variety of cryptocurrencies, and to some degree, they also offered a level of diversity for first time buyers. If I were to guess, I’d say what ultimately killed the Coinbase Bundle was simple lack of popularity.
What if I still want to buy a diverse collection of cryptocurrencies?
Nothing is stopping you! If you want to buy a diverse portfolio of cryptocurrency — whether to use them as buy-and-hold “investments” or to simply use to buy goods online — you can still do so quite easily on Coinbase. Simply buy a small amount of the 5 currencies that these bundles typically featured — Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum Classic, and Litecoin.
